Are you sick and tired of spending your entire paycheck on food and toiletries? We all dread the day that we have to go to the supermarket, knowing that we are about to drop some major cash. Although we all know that coupons exist, many of us do not really know how to use them to save a large chunk of change. I’m sure you’ve seen people using coupons, whether it was in real life or on television shows. It doesn’t have to be as hard as it seems. Use these 5 tips to learn the basics on how to save money by using coupons.
First and foremost, you have to find the coupons to use. You can do this in many different ways. If you get a daily newspaper delivered to your home, there are usually circulars in the very center of it. These few pages are usually white and easy to distinguish from the rest of the newspaper. In the circulars, there are pages of coupons that are usually from your local supermarket.
If you don’t get a newspaper in your area, don’t worry. There are other ways of getting coupons. You can go to your local supermarkets’ websites for the current circular. You can also do a google search for a “coupon database.” These databases will help you with your search for savings.
Always, always, always check the fine print. Some coupons can only be used once per item. This would mean that if an item is $2.00, and you have two $1.00 coupons, you can’t get the item free. You can, however, buy two items and get them both for one dollar. Other coupons have a stipulation of how many you can use per transaction. That means that you may only be able to use 3 coupons for that particular purchase.
For couponing and money-saving purposes, it is best to make a grocery list before shopping. If you make a list, you will know which coupons to look for prior to going to the store. If you get to the store and realize there are some things you needed that you forgot to put on your list, wait to purchase it until the next time. If you need it right away, search the supermarket’s website for a coupon for that item.
If you begin couponing and realize it is not making a big enough difference in your wallet, you have some other options. Ask a friend. If you know someone who uses coupons, sit with them and see if they have any tips to offer. You may be in a large bind, and need cash quick. If this is the case, you can look into installment loans. Do a google search for installment loans in your area. This can help you get back on your feet, and get a fresh start.
